So many of the tropes we associate with romance & courting come to us from the Victorians, and valentines are no exception. The first puzzle purse valentines were made in the 18th century by hand, usually in the form of a square. Advances in printing and lower costs for paper lead to a proliferation of beautiful, highly detailed valentines in the Victorian era. This heart shaped puzzle purse from the 1840s-1860s unfolds into a four-sided clover with sentimental verses printed on each leaf. There are three pages total.
This particular style of valentine is exceptionally rare & in remarkably good condition for its age. It even retains the silk loop at the top, allowing it to be hung for display. The pages are quite fragile, so handle with care while opening.

I STRONGLY recommend using the Route service: UPS & USPS are notorious for denying claims, especially if a package is lost or stolen rather than broken. Route only requires you to fill out an online form & they pay out immediately without fuss. I make no money on any insurance premiums collected- The service is provided only for your benefit.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
- We are happy to ship worldwide once again! Be advised that there's no way for us to know on our end what your customs fees, if any, might be: Shopify doesn't calculate or charge international buyers for customs fees at checkout. Customers are responsible for being aware of and paying any necessary customs fees your country may charge. I am not responsible for packages abandoned at the post office due to unpaid fees.
