Victorian decorative objects painted with black lacquer and inlaid with mother of pearl are some of my favorite things to collect. The Chinese-inspired design trend was most popular between the mid-1850s to mid-1860s. This plate would have held calling cards but serves very well as a general vide-pôche. It would also be gorgeous hanging on the wall- it’s super lightweight. Condition is good overall save for a short crack near the rim, shown.
