Gem sized tintypes or “little gems” are only about the size of a postage stamp & were most popular from the 1860s-1880. Gem albums are adored for their petite size by doll collectors, antiquarian book collectors, & photo collectors alike. This tooled red leather gem album fits in your palm & contains 60 tintypes- along with 1 photo of a bridge on paper. I’ve never seen a photo on paper that small before- If anyone knows about it feel free to share!
Condition is good overall with about 3 pages with ripped surfaces. Sometimes folks ask me, “How did they get the photos into these tiny openings in their albums?” The ripped pages are the result! They struggled to insert and remove photos from these narrow openings as much as us it seems. Make-do pin repair to clasp & about a half inch split at the bottom of the spine.

- Insurance is automatically added to every order for a very small fee, via the service Route. If you choose not to insure your order, I will not be held responsible for lost or stolen packages.

- If you are outside the US & would like to purchase something, please message me to arrange payment either through Paypal invoice or through our Etsy outpost. I am not currently taking international orders on this website due to a problem with Shopify's shipping calculator.
