Early 20th century antique solar enlargements of earlier antique photos- daguerreotypes or ambrotypes from the 1850s-1860s, judging by the clothes. There was no way to enlarge a daguerreotype or ambrotype, most of which were pocket sized. Essentially, solar enlargements were hand drawn and/or painted copies using a projected image of the original photo as a guide: They used glass & light to project an image of the photo onto paper or canvas. Enlargements were usually done with charcoal, chalk, and pastels; sometimes paint. Quality varies widely depending on how sensitive the artist was. This pair in aquarelle or gouache is very, very good. I think they might be sisters- certainly they came from the same household, so I’m selling them as a pair. Presented as found in the original frames.

- Orders ship once a week. If you need something by a certain date, please let me know before purchasing. I am almost always able to accommodate requests.
Insurance is automatically added to every order for a very small fee, via the service Route. You can waive this insurance by ticking the box at checkout, but if you choose to do so, I cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen packages. I STRONGLY recommend using the Route service: UPS & USPS are notorious for denying claims, especially if a package is lost or stolen rather than broken. Route only requires you to fill out an online form & they pay out immediately without fuss. I make no money on any insurance premiums collected- The service is provided only for your benefit.

- We are happy to ship worldwide once again! Be advised that there's no way for us to know on our end what your customs fees, if any, might be: Shopify doesn't calculate or charge international buyers for customs fees at checkout. Customers are responsible for being aware of and paying any necessary customs fees your country may charge. I am not responsible for packages abandoned at the post office due to unpaid fees.
