Charming, mid-19th century medical book consisting of household advice, solutions to common problems and small emergencies, and guidelines for healthy daily habits. The index is in the front rather than the back and the range of topics is kind of funny- “Heartburn” precedes “Hypocrisy,” “Smallpox” and “Gout” are alongside “Grave, a short road to” and “Confidence, too much.” The doctor who wrote it is full of personality- very opinionated! Not a dry book at all- I appreciate these little glimpses into what daily 19th century life was like.
Bound in textured and blindstamped brown cloth. Some marginal illustrations in black and white and a couple of full page engravings. Condition is good overall; typical foxing and edgewear.
