Very rare antique ad for Estey Organ Company of Brattleboro, VT, featuring spooky illustrations from Camille Saint-Saëns’s iconic La Danse Macabre. You’ve probably heard this famous piece of music in numerous places: It’s a symphonic poem that tells the story of Death awakening the deceased from their graves to dance to his fiddle at midnight. The xylophone represents the knocking of the bones. I bet you never knew it has lyrics! They are printed in this ad, which uses this complex, beloved piece as an example of all the things their organ can do. As Halloween antique collectibles go, you won’t find another person with this. Newly released from my personal collection.
