Newly released from my collection is this rare and extremely funny caricature of a dandy, dated 1826 and presented in its original frame. Caricatures of dandies this early are rarely seen outside museums. This was the era of Beau Brummel, who some consider the first true dandy, and who pioneered a very tailored, simple style of dressing that was the complete opposite of the overblown, foppish styles that were popular in the 18th century. His ideas on menswear were the precursor to modern suiting. The caption on this print reads, “Deuce takem! It fits like a Purser’s shirt on a hand-spike!” In other words, the gentleman is complaining that his extremely slim-cut jacket is too voluminous. Sort of reminds me of that ultra-skinny suit that has been fashionable for men to wear since the 2010s, which looks good on almost no one. The Regency era, however, was a singularly attractive era for menswear.
Condition is very good save for some wear to the frame. The paper backing was replaced by whoever had the piece before me.

SHIPPING
- Orders ship once a week. If you need something by a certain date, please let me know before purchasing. I am almost always able to accommodate requests.
Insurance is automatically added to every order for a very small fee, via the service Route. You can waive this insurance by ticking the box at checkout, but if you choose to do so, I cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen packages. I STRONGLY recommend using the Route service: UPS & USPS are notorious for denying claims, especially if a package is lost or stolen rather than broken. Route only requires you to fill out an online form & they pay out immediately without fuss. I make no money on any insurance premiums collected- The service is provided only for your benefit.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
- We are happy to ship worldwide once again! Be advised that there's no way for us to know on our end what your customs fees, if any, might be: Shopify doesn't calculate or charge international buyers for customs fees at checkout. Customers are responsible for being aware of and paying any necessary customs fees your country may charge. I am not responsible for packages abandoned at the post office due to unpaid fees.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- I do not do "holds," reserves, or payment plans. However, if you need help with financing, many safe & easy options are available to you at checkout, including Shop Pay.
