Being a fancier of all manner of mythology & lore from the British Isles, my eye was immediately drawn to the triskelion symbol on this turn of the century antique cup & saucer. It’s a souvenir from the Isle of Man, and the this ancient symbol appears on their flag. The Manx use of the triskelion with three legs dates back to the 13th century, though the triskelion with spirals dates back all the way to the Neolithic & Bronze ages. This is a moustache cup: The little piece of porcelain at the rim keeps your moustache dry while you sip.
Very good condition with some wear to the gilt glaze.
