I picked up this beautiful piece of antique hand painted porcelain just because I thought it was pretty. Imagine my surprise when I turned it over and recognized the signature: Ida Upton Paine was an artist whose parents were the owners of the House of Seven Gables in Salem, Massachusetts. She painted porcelain and glass souvenirs to sell in the mansion’s gift shop and is credited as the first person to make and market which souvenirs in Salem for tourists.
In 2019, I sold the House of Seven Gables the hand painted witch pin dish pictured on their website. It was one of my proudest moments as a dealer.
She painted all different kinds of glass and porcelain, including vases, dishes, and boxes. This particular ashtray or dish is painted with pink spider mums and dates to around 1920. Her clear signature is on the back. I thought I would give my followers an opportunity to purchase a rare and desirable piece of Salem history Before I call up the House and ask if they would like to buy something else!

RETURN POLICY
- All sales are FINAL. I strive to provide clear photos & accurate information for every item, & to anticipate any questions you may have. It is the buyer's responsibility to examine these photos clearly & read the description in full before purchasing. If you have any other questions or require further views, you've only to ask.
- No cancellations.
SHIPPING
- Orders ship once a week. If you need something by a certain date, please let me know before purchasing. I am almost always able to accommodate requests.
Insurance is automatically added to every order for a very small fee, via the service Route. You can waive this insurance by ticking the box at checkout, but if you choose to do so, I cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen packages. I STRONGLY recommend using the Route service: UPS & USPS are notorious for denying claims, especially if a package is lost or stolen rather than broken. Route only requires you to fill out an online form & they pay out immediately without fuss. I make no money on any insurance premiums collected- The service is provided only for your benefit.
INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING
- We are happy to ship worldwide once again! Be advised that there's no way for us to know on our end what your customs fees, if any, might be: Shopify doesn't calculate or charge international buyers for customs fees at checkout. Customers are responsible for being aware of and paying any necessary customs fees your country may charge. I am not responsible for packages abandoned at the post office due to unpaid fees.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
- I do not do "holds," reserves, or payment plans. However, if you need help with financing, many safe & easy options are available to you at checkout, including Shop Pay.
