Welp, there it is: The most unusual, glorious antique teapot I’ve ever seen. It is pure Aesthetic movement extravagance, with heavy nods to the natural world every place you look. A seashell sits atop the lid with another beneath the mascaron on the side. Cranes are a classic Aesthetic movement motif, borrowed from Japanese design. The handle looks like a branch of coral and the spout is the gaping mouth of a grotesque. Because its lovely, seafoam green glaze is matte, this might look like jasperware at first glance, but it’s heavy stoneware.
Maddeningly, I can’t find another exactly like it. The marks 18 & J are all I have to go on. Another dealer suggested to me that it’s reminiscent of William Brownfield, which is a very good idea. Brownfield did produce some novelty teapots with seashell or ocean themes, & they made other molded relief stoneware in a similar style with similar glazes.
The teapot is in outstanding condition with no chips or cracks.

I STRONGLY recommend using the Route service: UPS & USPS are notorious for denying claims, especially if a package is lost or stolen rather than broken. Be advised that there's no way for us to know on our end what your customs fees, if any, might be: Shopify doesn't calculate or charge international buyers for customs fees at checkout.
