They were often made by traveling salesman and each piece is unique: Made from a hand tinted photo or photos mounted to a painted base and then surrounded by a wooden frame. They are very often memorials of loved ones- this one might be someone’s parents. This particular piece came to me from the estate of a local art professor who sold antiques on the side and specialized in folk art from Mexico and South America. It’s very rare to find them up here in New England: Only ever seen them in museums before!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause they are so rare, I had to rescue it and take it home, even though it’s seen better days. At some point the frame cracked and came loose and was glued back in place. Additionally, there is wear around the edges of the faces.
